Program Requirement Information

TheArchitectural Technology Program prepares the graduate for employment opportunities in the field of architecture. Dutchess Community College graduates are also able to transfer many of their credits to accepted architectural colleges.

First year students are introduced to design and drafting both on the time tested board and the computer. Student design projects include residential and small scale commercial design. The students study and model the construction of wood frame buildings in the first semester and progress to small commercial projects in the second semester.

Second year students continue to develop their understanding of design by taking on more complex residential and commercial building types. Students also expand their drawing and organizational skills by learning to prepare construction drawings of commercial building types.

Students have the opportunity to visit architect’s offices, historically significant buidlings and exhibits through field trips arranged through the Architecture Club.
